Matthias Zabiegly is an allrounder in 3d animation and also does basic compositing. I’m based in Munich where I’m working as a 3d guy for AixSponza.

Cologne Cathedral

This was a pitch for a bigger documentary project about the cathedral of cologne. This stereoscopic animation is a proof of concept and look/mood demonstration.

I was responsible for lighting of the night time shots and troubleshooting GI problems.

Easybank Klartext

For austrian bank Easybank AixSponza created a TV commercial advertising their latest bank account model. I was responsible for the blow-up and being poked letters and the lighting/look of the studio environment.

Schweizer Film

As a signet trailer for swiss television we produced this spot which shows whenever a feature film produced in Switzerland is shown on TV.

My part was creating camera mappings and blowing snow simulations. Fuat Yüksel did the mattepaintings of mountains in sunset light and shading of the letters. Tobias Müller was directing and also compositing this spot.

Viva Game One Opener

For the redesign of Vivas' GameOne computer games show AixSponza created the whole package. This is the opener for each show. It's covering the history of computer games starting from Pong over Jump and Run to First Person Shooters in a more abstract style.

My part was to create dust, fire and smoke simulations.

My Inner Secrets

My Inner Secrets is a series about the inner workings of a RedBull formula 1 racing car. The first episode Kers & Rearwing explains how these two features work and what their effects on the car are.

I lit the daylight shots and supervised the rendering process and simulated all smoke effects. Additionally I did modeling and shading for racetrack assets like runoff areas, fences,...

Reality Check

An all CG shading/lighting demonstration displaying a typical product shot. Done at AixSponza I was responsible for everything on the 3d side. Compositing was done by Tobias Müller.

The idea behind this short piece is to show clients how their product could look like when rendered in a 3d package.

Test Drive

The invisible ghost driver trying to get out the green hell parkinglot.

This is a piece out of a pitch for Chevrolet. I rigged and animated the car with the car simulation engine Craft Director, lit and shaded the car. The environment was designed and built by Manuel Cassasola. Smoke effects are also created by me using TurbulenceFD for Cinema4d.

RedBull: Korean Circuit

A first glimpse at the south korean formula1 circuit that has its premier in october 2010. We go on the very first lap with Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel who take us through all corners and highspeed stretches of the track.

I was Lead3d at AixSponza on this project and also produced a few scenes myself and did the smoke simulations.

Sky - I want it all

TV commercial for Sky Germany advertising their football package. My job was creating the full CG packshot with the help of Massive artist Timm Dapper and Ulf Gieseler who did the shading of the cups.

The scene is built to hold up in 8k renderings because a print campain was created from the stadium and CG cups as well.

RedBull X-Fighters

Here all the most important rules and regulations of RedBulls motobike acrobatics XFighters are explained.

I did technical development for the whole rendering process which involved getting a lot of Massive simulations ready to be rendered under full GI. Additionally I was lighting artist for the stadium and did a bit of shading as well as smoke simulations.

Foodbanks

Image spot for Foodbanks of Belgium promoting a social project the company is involved in.

Rigidbody-Simulations done by me. This spot also served as an example at my talk at Maxon UserMeeting '09.

Nescafé Dolce Gusto

This is a nearly-full CGI spot of a new model of Nescafé's Dolce Gusto line of coffee machines. All shots except the "coffee pours in cups" ones are fully 3d.

I did lighting/shading of this shots: CloseUp of coffee pad inserted in machine and the packshot

RedBull AirRace

The RedBull Airrace is a sport where the best pilots of the world compete against each other in a race of speed, precision, skill and very fast reactions. This video takes you through all the rules and basics of the sport.

I was production lead, coordinating the production phase, was also responsible for water shading and did technical development on the motion blured propeller.

RedBullRacing Dreamsphere

For the first time in history RedBull Racing allows a sneak peak into their production facility in Milton Keynes / England.

I was Lead3d at AixSponza for the production of the 3d animations in this video. I supervised the production/rendering phase and also did lighting and shading on the 3d "hangar" shots.

ING DiBa Logoanimations

Four variations of ING logo animation for belgian TV. Modeling and shading was done by Rizon Parein, I animated all four variations.

RedBull Singapore Circuit

For the world's first formula one night race AixSponza did a 2.5 HD min. feature of the Singapore racing circuit. Mark Webber the pilot of the Red Bull racing team comments the film directly from within his virtual race-car.

For this project I was LeadArtist doing lighting mostly along with some enhancements to the car rig.

Beehive

This one was done as an ident spot for Bayerischer Rundfunk which is a german tv station. Most of the spot was live action, the bees are the only CGI shot in it.

Rigging and animation by Fabian Rosenkranz, rest by me.

Cashlife

Produced for a company which buys your life insurance to give you money in emergencies this german only spot was produced to be shown at trade fairs and online. Task was to put the graphics into the pop up book.

This is the first project where I was in charge as LeadArtist. I coordinated a team of 6 people working on it and additionally animated three scenes myself.

Bluespace Storage

This one is a TV commercial for a Spanish company that provides storage space. It plays on the Tetris theme and how you can clean up spaces by storing your valuables somewhere else. It's a 100% CGI commercial with no filmed elements. I was responsible for shading of the furniture mostly.

Chevrolet Spark

Chevrolet Spark is going to be introduced in China and this is the corresponding commercial. What I did was particle effects and some compositing.

Medion Designline

Medion is a hardware manufacturer that operates in most European countries as well as in North America. This spot features a range of its products and was adapted for quite a lot of different languages and product ranges. I was responsible for cameramapping the products and placing tendrils and flowers.

Time

One of the semester projects at my MA studies. Topic was "nonlinear time". In this very short animation time is inconsistent. Some parts of the scene portrait run at normal time, some are timelapse and some are slow motion.
